Let The Scars Remind You...

Do you have any scars? What do they remind you of?

There are people who hate some parts of their bodies because they are scarred, and they cover it up so much so, that if the body part could speak, it'll tell them "I need some air"
There are people who are in-different about the scars, whether it shows or not, whether it’s pretty or not, who cares? It’s just a scar.
Then again, there are people who actually love their scars and those of others. They look at people's scars and tell them its beautiful followed by the deep question - what's your story? These people look at their scars and it reminds them of all the pain they had to go through, but in the end, they overcame. It’s like saying, I’m an overcomer and here is my receipt!

Leaving the physical for a moment, there are scars embedded in our hearts, nobody sees them but we feel them. You’ve probably been heartbroken too many times, hurt by those you held dear, you look around and realize there's no love, no loyalty then you press play to your new favourite song by Chris brown- loyal.
Sometimes you look back and you are too ashamed to even count how many times you've tried to patch the pieces of your broken heart, too scared to start afresh. Dashed hopes. Shortened expectations. Broken promises. Failed relationships. Dead dreams. It has really been a bumpy ride.

I don’t have a scar but I have a large dark mark on my left arm that God decided to give me as a birthday present. This used to bother me as a teenager but now when people tell me it’s beautiful and ask me what’s my story, I tell them God loves me so much that he kept putting the tiny beauty spots on me till it formed this large mark :-). With every tiny beauty spot, he whispered "I love you" into my ears, soothing me even as a child.
I grew older, HIS love for me sweeter, and my mark larger. Yeah, that's my story and I’m sticking to it. So every time I see my large mark, I imagine how many “I LOVE YOU” God must have told me the day I was formed. This to me makes my mark beautiful, plus it looks like a tattoo from afar (emphasis on afar) so it’s also swag! Lol

So if you have a scar, be it physical or emotional, you have 3 options. First, you can choose to hate yourself and those around you, and blame the world for scarring you, it’s really your choice but remember, we as individuals have to first love ourselves before any other person can love us. In the same vein, you have to show love to receive love. Karma has no public holiday, it works, every time!

Secondly, you can choose to be indifferent, but imagine if Abraham Lincoln was passive/indifferent. Nobody would have had "the dream". Imagine if Obama was indifferent, imagine if all your heroes with incredible success stories decided not to care. My point is, the indifferent person never makes a change worth mentioning. An indifferent Superman is just a man with a bad dress sense who didn’t learn how to wear his underwear properly and tops it with a horrid cape.

Lastly, you can choose to look at your scars every time and let them remind you of the trials you turned into triumph, be proud of it, it shows you have a story. After all, every successful person needs a success story to tell the world and it won’t be interesting if it’s all sweet, don’t you think?
Whatever caused that scar didn’t kill you, you saw and you overcame, you are still here today! Keep your head high, pop your collar, let the scars breathe, let your heart heal and walk around like a boss!
