Lol! So I saw the picture above on a friend’s bbm display picture and I laughed hard. A friend of mine after laughing hard said "Ah, ooto ni, we have real enemies on this side of the world, you have to usher the New Year in with real prayers"(imagine this saying with a yoruba accent)
So this period of the year, everybody in Nigeria is fasting, or pretending to be fasting, or attempting to fast. Whichever category you are in, the truth is, most Christians are more spiritually aware this time of the year.
Me sef, I dey included oh, but I was just wondering...why can’t we be on this spiritual level all through the year? Does it have to be a New Year episode only?
A lot of people cannot actually wait for their fasting period to be over so they can go back to not only the eating, but the drinking, womanizing, lying, and all the bad bad things you can think of.
So who is deceiving who now? Is it not better to eat and be merry all through the year, while working on improving on your bad habits, than to go on hunger strike for a number of days, while thinking in your heart of how to get back to all the “fun”?
Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to be spiritual, very good. Your spirit being is a vital part of your whole being that has to be kept alive and healthy for the whole being to function properly, but don’t just practice religion and suffer your whole being.
That said, please, if you are counting down to when you will go back to being reckless and you claim you are fasting, do yourself a favour and eat biko!!!
But for those doing it in spirit and in truth, the devil will definitely cause that your colleague that sits beside you, that NEVER used to have food, to suddenly start having not just food, but food that smells so good, it affects your brain. That your stingy friend will suddenly start offering you in-between snacks. There will be more birthdays than usual in the office, and they will share cakes and chocolates, your stomach will grumble, your eyes will pop! But amidst all of it, tell the devil his plan will not WERK! Halleluiah somebody!
But after the spiritual exercise, always remember how you didn’t want to do bad things because you were fasting. If you could do it for a while, you can practise to make it your lifestyle. Nobody benefits from you being at your best more than you!
Be better!
