Since When Do You Do Anything?

'Famous five', ‘L cube- D square’, ‘L and D crew’…These are few of the many names we were called as a group of five friends back in undergrad and trust me we were a Bad-Ass-Crew (insert ‘yimu’ here). Over the years we managed to keep in touch, we even have a BBM group called L and D crew…LOL!

You know how you have some friends and you don’t bug each other about not keeping in touch because no matter how long it’s been since you last spoke, you can get on the same page in minutes without speaking to much grammar and you can’t explain how they know so much about you but They. Just. Know!!!
Well, I like to think the L and D crew falls into that category, so you can imagine my utmost surprise when I announced on our group chat, with so much excitement by the way, that I started a blog, then they asked me, ‘ since when do you write?’. I mean, I have been writing since high school, so how do they, of all people, not know that I write?


I decided to be honest with myself, how exactly are they supposed to know? Sometimes, I’ll just put on my laptop and write, literally about anything, and I just keep on writing, but then after, I’ll save it and hide the file on the system so much that I even forget that I have write-ups on my system. So the people who know I write are possibly just Benny and I (bear in mind that Benny is my laptop)
This got me thinking, if anyone in Nigeria stands up today and asks, for example, P-Square, since when do you guys sing? The thing is, they won’t need to reply you themselves, the people around them at that moment will have answers for you and trust me, the answers you will get will be more questions. Questions ranging from mild ones like ‘where have you been?’ to harsher ones like ‘Do you live in a cave?’ and don’t be surprised if a 50-year-old man stands up and hits his chest shouting ‘even before them born me, these boys don dey sinnngggg’ forgetting that the duo aint even 40 yet. At this point, it is a sin for you not to know P-square.

Many of us fall into that category, we know we have something inside of us, and we know people should know about that something, but somehow we bottle it up inside of us. Don’t be surprised if your friends also ask you ‘since when do you do anything?’ They simply don’t know! And it’s your fault because you simply didn’t let it show.
I therefore urge everyone reading this to start letting your special gift show, don’t keep all the goodness to yourself, the world hasn’t seen anything like what you’ve got…YES! So let it show till it becomes a ‘sin’ for people not to know what you do.

So, L and D crew (seriously we need a new name…Lol!) I forgive you for not knowing. The answer to your question, since when do I write? Since NOW!
