The original Jesus Piece can sell for as high as $17,000. More...or Less....but the point is, some cost that much. In our usual naija style, i'll give you a moment to calculate the naira equivalent. Now that we are on the same page and you understand that some of these neckpieces can pay some people's annual salary, all benefits inclusive, lets make some comparisons and ask a few questions.
There's nothing wrong in owning a Jesus piece, it's use here is just as an illustration of how some of us view Christianity. We see it as that one thing that we must wear round our necks, let it bling so much for the world to see, afterall what's the use being a Christian if the whole world doesn't know. While this is true, I personally believe that there is more to Christianity than the public show of our faith, its about the peace we feel inside when we are fully aware of the gospel and we understand what Jesus meant when He said "if you love me, you will obey my commandements". Its being able to go before him and dwell in his presence, unashamed of the gospel of Christ whether are not people are watching, more importantly, when people are not watching. Its about service, helping people in need, ministering unto others without the hope of getting praises or any form of reward. Its about spirituality, doing things to please God and setting your eyes on what is most important. Its about a lot of things but one thing is for sure, its about whats on the inside. Naturally, what's on your inside reflects on the outside but we can't say the same for what's on the outside.
This is for everybody, no matter your religion. Sit back and evaluate yourself from the inside. Why do you proclaim your faith? For people to see it as a piece that adorns you and call you a strong believer? or for you to feel the peace of the One you believe in?
So before you wear that chaplet, before you buy that big Bible/Quran that you intend to drop on your desk in the office, before you bring out the high denominations and spray the offering box, just before you do anything that proclaims your faith to the world, be sure you are doing it for the right reasons, and that you are inwardly at peace.
By the way, I dont mind a Jesus piece oh, it should really look good on me, or better still, as a proper Ibo babe, I can sell it and use the money to open shop, spare parts no be bad idea. This 9 to 5, odikwa risky :-)
