Don't Grow Up!!!

Thinking back now to when I was much younger and I’m just wondering, what in the hell ever made me think growing up was so cool? I literally couldn’t wait to be grown up. Now I’m all grown up (or at least I think I am) and I’ve come to realize I was set-up. This was a serious set-up!

I remember those days of playing Ten-Ten and Suwe on the street and all the razz but fun games, at least the ones my mum will allow us play till she became her usual self, woke up one morning and didn’t want us stepping out of the house again. She then over-fed us with video games, of all sorts. From Mario to Mortal Kombat. We had all the recent games just so we wouldn’t go out. And we thought she just loved us so much that she wanted us to be the recent gamers, that one sef na another set up.

The game she bought sef, na she play am pass. Lol. I remember she was the first person to save the princess in Mario. Even though she would be raising her leg and hitting the floor concurrently as Mario jumps, as if she’s inside the television with him, but she saved the princess. The end like they say justifies the means.

All I’m saying is, those were good times. Playing games, eating, sleeping, day dreaming about the future and just being generally jobless, broke and happy.

But as you grow older you realize that things get serious, you have to pass WAEC if not you won’t get into Uni. Serious stuff. You have to make a 2:1 so your labour market journey can be easier for you. Another serious stuff. You have to get a job, get married, get money, get more degrees, and the need to keep getting practically never ends, just like the bills too. You then realize you need to make a conscious effort to ensure that things are not too serious around you and find time to have fun.

Now I’ve learnt and I'm trying not to rush anything, let things come in the right time and I make sure I’m having fun in my current situation.

I only wish I could tell kids these days that Instagram and Twitter is too damn grown up and Snapchat aint helping either.
